I find it absurd to try to be a truly effective JavaScript developer while only using a small sliver of what the language has to offer. My unreserved claim is that you should go about learning all parts of JavaScript, and where appropriate, use them! And if I may be so bold as to suggest: it's time to discard any other JS books which tell you otherwise.
